Family-Friendly Holiday Events in San Luis Obispo County




The holiday season is here, and events are lighting up all over San Luis Obispo County. From Santa sightings to plays and dances featuring classic characters, there are plenty of family-friendly activities to unwrap this year.


Here are some of our favorites:

The Holiday Extravaganza, Oceano—November 17 – December 31

The Great American Melodrama will feature the cherished holiday show “A Christmas Carol.” Watch Scrooge find his Christmas spirit in this classic Charles Dickens heart-warming tale of holiday cheer. For more information go to https://www.americanmelodrama.com.

Holiday Parade, San Luis Obispo—December 2, 7 p.m.

This popular holiday parade has been gracing downtown SLO for 46 years. This year the theme will be Rock ‘n’ Retro and it will feature over 80 decorative floats, marching bands, vehicles, dancers, and much, much more. The parade route begins at Chorro and Palm streets and ends at the intersection of Nipomo and Monterey. This is a free event. Light Up Downtown Holiday Celebration, Atascadero—December 2, 5:30 p.m.

This is a delightful annual holiday celebration that takes place in Sunken Gardens, Downtown Atascadero. The Fine Arts Academy Honor Choir and Atascadero Community Band will perform holiday music, and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there to greet the children. There will also be complimentary family-friendly hayrides, hot chocolate and fire truck rides. The grown-ups can also indulge in some holiday cheer by purchasing tickets for the Art and Wine Tour. Lighted Boat Parade, Morro Bay—December 3, 6:30 p.m.

Get ready to be dazzled with holiday lights as fishing boats, leisure boats and yachts set sail along Morro Bay Embarcadero decked out in holiday decor. This is a free event. For more details, go to https://www.morrobay.org/event/lighted-boat-parade/14018/.


Olde Towne Nipomo Family Christmas, Nipomo—December 4, 2 p.m.

Now in its sixth year, this holiday event will feature a parade, tree lighting ceremony and photos with Mr. and Mrs. Claus.
